Laurel has always been a little different. Homeschooled until eighth grade, raised by her medicine-spurning, herb-loving mother and bookstore owning father, Laurel has a hard time fitting in at her new high school. Not only is it the first time she’s been in public school, but she prefers to spend the majority of her time outdoors, and all of the indoor class time is stifling.
With the help of her new friend, David, Laurel begins to feel at home in her new town and school – and then she starts to change in a way that has her questioning her history and identity. Who – and what – is she?

I devoured this book. I just started it yesterday – and I couldn’t put it down!Aprilynne Pike has written a wonderful story and created a truly unique fantasy world, as well as given us characters to love – and a juicy love triangle. As the conflict in the story began to unfold, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next.
The story ends with more resolution than some series fantasy I’ve read, but it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered and lots of future possibilities to explore. I was happy to discover that this is the first in a series of four. I have the second series of this and i cant wait to read it. =)
Highly recommended.
