Review: How to Ruin a Summer Vacation (Ruin 1) by Simone Elkeles

Published October 1st 2006
series
How to Ruin #1
charaters
Amy Nelson, Avi, Osnat, Safta

Cover:
Plot:
Characters:
Writing:
Ending:

Details from Goodreads:

Moshav? What’s a moshav? Is it “shopping mall” in Hebrew? I mean, from what Jessica was telling me, Israeli stores have the latest fashions from Europe. That black dress Jessica has is really awesome. I know I’d be selling out if I go with the Sperm Donor to a mall, but I keep thinking about all the great stuff I could bring back home.

Unfortunately for 16-year-old Amy Nelson, “moshav” is not Hebrew for “shopping mall.” Not even close. Think goats, not Gucci.

Going to Israel with her estranged Israeli father is the last thing Amy wants to do this summer. She’s got a serious grudge against her dad, a.k.a. “Sperm Donor,” for showing up so rarely in her life. Now he’s dragging her to a war zone to meet a family she’s never known, where she’ll probably be drafted into the army. At the very least, she’ll be stuck in a house with no AC and only one bathroom for seven people all summer—no best friend, no boyfriend, no shopping, no cell phone…

Goodbye pride—hello Israel.

REVIEW:

Amy is a 16 yrs old girl who loves coke and sushi with a big booby problem. haha
Nah! Im just joking but its one of Amy's never ending problems.
Definitely a great light read. First when Im reading this I keep thinking that shes like Megan in one if Kate Brian's book. But im wrong, she's one of the pretty tough ass chicks for me and also stubborn. but I like it.
She have to spend the rest of her summer vacation in his Dad place in Israel because of her "Safta". And she met a hot boy named Avi. It was love at first page for me.
Why am I always find myself fell in love in all of Simone's characters that she made. There is something but I cant pinpoint it.
Overall, tthere were some fun LOL moments and hilarious narrative and dialog that despite the serious themes infused in the story, I was able to sit back and enjoy the ride. I can't wait to read Elkeles' next novel on How to Ruin My Teenage Life.
Im totally devoured it.

REVIEW:

Aw! such a great book, Simone Elkeles never disappoint me in this second book of leaving paradise even though the Rules of Attraction is more interesting and "Ill never forget novel" that she ever wrote(plus the Perfect Chemistry).
I read this book and ROA at a same time, after I read a chapter in the one book then Ill go to the other book to read a chapter or two. So its really hard to give a proper review about this. The emotion I felt forward the ROA lingers even though I'm reading RTP. I sometimes got mixed the both situation or scene (even the characters) in RTP and ROA. What? haha but both books are great, however I wish the epilogue of RTO is as awesome as ROA.
Oh Simone please find me someone as funny as Carlo, as cleaver as Caleb, and as HOT as Alex. All your boys in your books gives me a heart attack and body shattering every time I think about them. haha :P
